Tesla Solar and Batteries
Most of us know Tesla as an automotive company that brought its electric vehicles to the market — in a way that made driving electric cars cool. While Tesla EVs have played a large role in the electric vehicle transition, the corporation also includes segments in solar energy and batteries.
In addition to the Tesla electric vehicles, Tesla builds batteries for energy storage at home and on a commercial scale. There is also a Tesla Solar division, so you can power your home on renewable energy as well.
In addition to cars, Tesla sells solar panels.
With Tesla's solar panels, users can move closer to sustainable living by harnessing and storing solar energy. According to Tesla, its solar panels are priced the lowest in America, thanks to a guaranteed price match.
Tesla solar panels are all black and have a 400-watt capacity. The operating temperatures are between -40 degrees Fahrenheit and 185 degrees Fahrenheit. Tesla solar panels come with a 25-year “operating guarantee,” and the inverter has a 12.5 year warranty.
You can monitor your Tesla solar panels 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That means checking your energy production and usage in real-time, from any location. There are also options for setting preferences on the solar panels to “optimize for energy independence.”
Some roofs aren’t suited for typical solar panels, but Tesla says its panels work “even on roofs with complicated angles.” Tesla also offers Solar Roof, made of a mixture of glass solar tiles and steel tiles that come with a 25-year warranty.
If you purchase a Powerwall from Tesla (more on that below), it can be conveniently bundled with your Tesla solar panels. That’s a great way to make the most of your solar panels, since the Powerwall can store solar power to be used at any time, day or night.
Having access to stored solar energy helps you overcome one of the main disadvantages of solar energy. Bundling the Tesla solar with the Powerwall can ensure you have power during non-sunny times and during power outages.
Tesla also makes powerful batteries for a variety of uses.
In addition to its EV market and solar energy, Tesla makes batteries for home and commercial use. Tesla Powerwall and Tesla Megapack are two of the main battery products to know about.
Powerwall is Tesla’s storage system that pairs with its solar panels to provide energy storage for homes. Solar customers can be more confident of power availability even during an outage and whenever there’s no sunlight.
You can have Powerwall mounted either indoors or outdoors. Plus, the Powerwall is water-resistant and designed to be both kid-friendly and pet-friendly due to having no exposed wiring or vents. The Powerwall has a 13.5 kWh capacity, and it comes with a 10-year warranty. Tesla says you can get more than one Powerwall unit to “further lower your carbon footprint and to prepare your home for power outages”.
Another part of Tesla’s battery offerings is the Megapack, a battery unit that stores energy for the grid. Commercial projects may rely on Megapack, as well as utility systems.
According to Tesla, one Megapack unit can store sufficient energy to power an average of 3,600 homes for one hour. Megapack battery storage products are under warranty for up to 20 years. They’re also customizable and scalable, so they can be useful in a wide range of sizes and locations.
Though its CEO Elon Musk has caused plenty of controversy, many people — fans and skeptics alike — are still convinved Tesla is still doing important work to advance the word away from fossil fuels and toward renewable energy sources.
