The Nectar Mattress Lawsuits Allege False Advertising, Fiberglass Content, and More

The popular mattress brand, Nectar, has made a name for itself as a comfy budget-friendly bed.

However, a series of lawsuits and complaints in the past few years has brought into question the authenticity and even safety of Nectar mattresses. So, let's take a look at the Nectar mattress lawsuits.

One of Nectar's, (also known as Nectar Sleep; DreamCloud, LLC; and DreamCloud Brand LLC), main selling points was that its mattresses were made and assembled in the U.S., when they were actually found by the Federal Trade Commission, (FTC) to be entirely imported from China.

From here, the FTC reached a settlement with Nectar and banned the brand from making any claims implying that their products were made or assembled in the U.S., per the Federal Trade Commission.

In 2021, there was another false advertising lawsuit. This time it was a false claim from the DreamCloud mattress brand, which is owned by the same parent company as Nectar, Resident Home LLC. DreamCloud claimed that its mattresses were "proudly made with 100 percent USA-made premium quality materials," which was found again by the FTC to be false.

This time, instead of acting against DreamCloud alone — which is how the FTC settled with Nectar in 2018 — the FTC forbade Resident Home LLC and all the companies it operates from making any more false claims, and to pay $753,000 to settle the charges, per Sleepline.

Currently, no, there is not a fiberglass lawsuit against Nectar. Not yet.

Nectar mattresses do contain fiberglass, which is a manmade fiber made from glass, great for insulation, but can cause skin and respiratory tract irritation, per the Illinois Department of Public Health. In other words, it's not something you want in your mattress.

The layer of fiberglass is under the mattress cover; however, a small hole can cause direct exposure and even leak fiberglass all over the house. Therefore, it's imperative that Nectar mattress users make sure their mattress is not ruptured or torn, per Sleeping Ocean.

You may be wondering now, are Nectar mattresses safe? Well, as long as the mattress cover is intact, Nectar mattresses are technically safe. However, this doesn't mean you shouldn't be careful. Other mattress companies like Zinus have been sued in the past for injuries caused by fiberglass.

According to Sleepline, attorneys have been grouping complains from customers about being harmed by the fiberglass in Nectar mattresses in order to get ready for a future class-action lawsuit.
