Shipping containers are finding new life in all sorts of projects outside of simple storage, for instance in urban farming. Simple, built to human proportions and with a lot of structural integrity, a shipping container is capable of far more than just containing. A company called MODS international has created a livable unit inside a shipping container that anyone can simply order on Amazon.

The units are not built from recycled containers, but brand spanking new ones, so you don't have to worry too much about what was inside your house before. They include a kitchen, small living area, bathroom, and a bedroom that can sleep up to four with bunk beds. But they are, of course, fully customizable, with added windows and double doors to allow light inside and expand the space.

According to their website, the MODS are built to code, and can also be adjusted for local building rules in regards to plumbing and electricity, which powers both the heat and A/C units inside. Containers also have great insulation to keep things at the temperature you need. They also boast that setup is fairly simple, with MODS being deliverable on a flatbed truck and most hooked up within an hour or so.

They're also willing to work with you and modify the house to your specifications, which means that it could potentially be set up for solar power use, or with other adjustments to make it a more sustainable self-contained container. So, how much does it cost to order your tiny house online? About $36,000 plus $4,000 in shipping and handling, and you've got your own tiny home completely paid off. The shipping even seems pretty reasonable, considering the item is listed as being 7,500 pounds.
