Internet Is Shocked to Learn That Those Wall Plates Actually Have an Important Function
We all learned something important from this teacher.

Class is in session for one TikTok-ing teacher who decided to turn her viral video into a teachable moment. It all started when people started arguing over the woman's unusual method for cooling down her classroom, leaving her with no choice but to explain — and then later test — her process.
In the end she taught the internet something new about the Honeywell C7772 sensor wall plate located in her classroom, and about the importance of paying attention when the teacher's talking. You can find out more about her unusual air conditioning lesson below.
A teacher's TikTok about her Honeywell C7772 sensor wall plate divided the internet.
A teacher who goes by the user name @sammiehillary went viral when she posted a video of herself tricking the sensor in her classroom so that the school's air conditioning unit would kick on. In the short clip, she can be seen leaning up against the wall, placing her hand over the silver plate in the hopes that her body heat would rase the classroom temperature enough for the building's HVAC to be activated.
And while the educator has presumably worked in that building long enough to know exactly what the otherwise nondescript silver plate was designed for, many people were quick to jump in the comments to make fun of her for believing that the metal plate was anything other than a cover for a hole in the wall.
"I'm pretty sure that's just an outlet cover," one person wrote.
Then there were others who told her that it was the Honeywell C7772 sensor — but that simply placing her hand over a sensor like that would hardly do the trick.
"That doesn’t work. Coming from a facility manager lol," another person wrote.
She then removed the plate to check if it was attached to anything or just a cover.
Of course, as a teacher, the TikToker felt compelled to investigate the plate so that she could get to the truth, filming her entire process for her followers.
She brought a screwdriver to school and got to work, slowly removing the plate while explaining what she was doing to anyone who may have missed her original video.
In the end, the educator was absolutely vindicated when she pulled the silver plate off the wall and turned it towards the camera, where she confirmed that it was a Honeywell C7772 sensor wall plate, even taking a moment to show the wire attaching the plate to the wall to those who may have doubted her the.
In the place of irrefutable proof, many people popped into the comments to confirm what @sammiehillary had been saying all along.
Some of the commentors even replied with a bit of a sense of humor, joking about how the teacher's decision to investigate the sensor could have consequences for both her and the school.
"The superintendent watching this," one person joked with a set of eye emojis and a pair of lips.
Another jumped in to joke that removing the plate had just voided any warranty the school may have had with Honeywell regarding the HVAC system.
But the funniest comment had to come from the TikToker who pointed out just how disastrous this hack would be at home for all of those parents who like to stay in control of the household temperatures.
"All of our Dads just muted the WW2 documentary and started calling each other on speakerphone to say we cracked the code and no thermostat is safe for now," they quipped.
Warranty or not, it seems like @sammiehillary turned a little mystery into a really cool learning opportunity, teaching the internet exactly what those wall plates are for, and reminding us that a little curiosity can be a good thing.
