Move over Stanley, there's another expensive water bottle on the market that is getting a lot of attention. Although, the reason why people have begun to take notice of the Echo Go+ from Echo Water has less to do about the bottle's viral nature and collectability of the drink canister, and more to do with the triple digit price and health benefit claims.
I break down the bottle's price below, including what the brand claims hydrogen infused water can do for your health and well-being.
What is Echo Water and why would you want hydrogen water?
Echo Water is one of several companies that make a water bottle that can infuse regular water with hydrogen gas. According to the company's website, traditional water doesn't contain hydrogen levels that are high enough to combat the effects of hydrogen deficiency, something Echo Water says presents as fatigue, joint pain, muscle pain, and/or a foggy feeling. The Echo Go+ is supposed to help with that, supposedly adding up to nine times the amount of hydrogen gas you'd find in a similarly sized bottle of water.
Not only does Echo Water claim that its hydrogen infused water will help offset the results of free radical damage — which the Cleveland Health Clinic says is connected to everything from aging to Alzheimer's disease — but the brand also says that it's better for the environment since it's a reusable bottle. The bottle is also resealable, which makes it easy to toss into your gym bag or suitcase, something the company claims makes it super easy to stay on top of hydrogen-related hydration needs.
As to whether or not those needs can be met by drinking hydrogen infused water, well... the jury is still out. While WebMD notes that studies have found some promising results among those who drank hydrogen water — something they say included increased endurance and reduced fatigue symptoms — it appears that those results weren't always replicated.
Additionally, WebMD notes that many people saw the same benefits from drinking water alone, seeming to indicate that staying hydrated, no mater what type of water you were using, is the key to improved health.
Why is the Echo Water bottle so expensive?
You may be wondering why the price point on the Echo Go+ is so high when compared to other retailers when companies like Amazon have hydrogen bottles available for as low as $29.99. According to the Carbon Wellness blog, the reason why these bottles cost a pretty penny has to do with the equipment used to generate hydrogen. The company has secured three patents on their design, which has allowed them to keep their price point higher than their competitors who simply don't have the same technology.
As to whether the products are worth that much, well, that is something consumers will have to decide based on what they believe about the benefits of hydrogen infused water, and whether or not $250 is within their budget.
